Our story · Vancouver, BC · Est. 2002
A local tree company, right down to the roots.
We have looked after Greater Vancouver trees since 2002. Heritage is owned and led by Sam Chapman - born on the West Side, trained as a Certified Arborist, and still the person who comes out to look at the job.

Vancouver born and raised
Sam knew these streets before he knew them tree by tree.
The trees that shape Vancouver's West Side were part of Sam's everyday life long before they became his work.
In 2002, he started Heritage Tree Service. The work grew around the same mix we handle today: a tree that needs careful pruning, a large removal in a tight yard, a permit report that has to be right, or a trunk worth milling instead of hauling away.
We have more equipment now and a lot more seasons behind us. The company is still owner-operated. Sam leads the assessment, explains the options in plain language and makes sure the property is left properly cleaned up.
A short history
Raised on Vancouver's West Side.
Local trees, local streets and a lifelong familiarity with the city's properties.
Heritage Tree Service opens.
Sam builds an owner-operated company around careful tree work and direct advice.
Still local. Much more experienced.
Full-service arborist work for homes, businesses, and beyond.
The person behind the name
Certified knowledge, without the contractor runaround.
Sam is an ISA Certified Arborist and Hazard Tree Assessor. He also prepares the arborist reports needed for tree removal permits.
That training matters, but so does being easy to reach. When Sam looks at a tree, he talks through what he sees, what can wait and what should not. You get a clear recommendation from the person responsible for the work.
“Sam is patient, easy to talk to and his crew were polite and professional.”Wade S. · East Vancouver

How we think
Tree work is a judgement call before it is a chainsaw job.
Good work starts with looking closely, explaining the trade-offs and planning for everything around the tree.
Look at the whole site
The tree matters. So do the roof, fence, garden, access, utility lines and people moving around below it.
Say what we see
We explain why a tree can stay, needs work or should come down - and what each option means for the property.
Protect what sits below
Every climb, cut and lowering plan is built around the home, landscape, neighbouring property and crew on the ground.
Finish the full job
Brush removal and cleanup are part of our work. We do not leave the last part of the job for the homeowner.
A little more Heritage
Good wood does not always have to leave as waste.
When a trunk is worth keeping, we can mill it into planks, square posts or cross-sections.
It is a practical service, and one we like for another reason: part of the tree can stay with the property in a form that will be used for years.
